Our company is committed to protecting the environment by implementing sustainable practices in all aspects of our operations. Every step we take is guided by the desire to create a greener future for future generations and beyond. We constantly innovate and invest in environmentally friendly technologies and practices, ensuring that we minimize our negative impact on the environment.

Sustainability is at the core of our values and is a part of the company’s daily life. We treat this issue with the utmost seriousness and aim for a fully sustainable supply chain, from production to logistics, and until our products reach store shelves.

Given the company’s ongoing involvement in adhering to and applying European principles and directives regarding sustainability policies, Băneasa Group has adopted a series of initiatives/projects that support the reduction of carbon footprints and the principle of sustainable development.

  • Installation of Photovoltaic Panels – The company has taken on the fight against climate change and adopted a series of measures contributing to the decarbonization of the energy system by producing energy from renewable sources. In 2023, the investment in photovoltaic panels installed on the roofs of factories and warehouses was completed, with an installed capacity of 512 kWh;
  • Electrification of the vehicle fleet – by reaching a 50% share of electric and hybrid vehicles in the fleet by the end of 2030;
  • Modernization of water recycling systems – in order to ensure a high level of purification before the wastewater is discharged;
  • Improving Energy Efficiency prin by using LED bulbs (which can save up to 80% on electricity), a smart lighting system (using separate light sources for different parts of rooms), and installing electric hand dryers in restrooms, with sensors and automatic shut-off down mechanisms;
  • Upgrading more than 80% of the motors used in grain milling and pasta production by replacing them with cutting-edge, energy-efficient models;
  • Installing a dust extraction system at the grain unloading area in the silo and a dust absorption system at the flour and bran loading stations. This complex investment ensures the unloading of 500 tons of wheat per day and the loading of over 200 tons of flour and bran per day, in compliance with environmental regulations;
  • Purchasing a complex die washing system, which reduces wastewater by 90%, saving over 100 cubic meters of water monthly;
  • Replacing two hot water production boilers, reducing gas consumption by 40%;
  • Optimizing water consumption by installing sensors on all toilet bowls, equipped with an infrared detection system for users, and installing flush tanks with dual-flush control mechanisms;
  • Focusing on increasing the recyclability of product packaging, reducing plastic usage by investing heavily in new, more recyclable packaging materials and related packaging technologies;
  • Planting 320 fruit trees (cherry, sour cherry, apricot, quince, apple, pear, plum, peach—40 of each) and maintaining a large green area within the factory premises, as green spaces are among the main absorbers of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
  • Adopting a concrete waste recycling plan by efficiently applying the principle of selective collection and delivering as much waste as possible to recycling operators, rather than simply disposing of it;
  • Logistics optimization projects carried out in collaboration with distribution partners to reduce the number of freight transport trips, thus minimizing the negative impact of fuel consumption;
  • Efficiently utilizing by-products and secondary products from production by repurposing them in other industries, for example animal feed, therefore minimizing food waste as much as possible;
  • Creating and adhering to an efficiency and maintenance program to ensure the equipment operates for as long as possible with minimal resource consumption.

SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC SUSTAINABILITY

  • As strong advocates of fair labor practices and employee well-being, we have been BSCI certified since 2022. The implementation of these standards ensures compliance with socially responsible production conditions, while clearly and visibly demonstrating fair working conditions and occupational safety for our employees.
  • We prioritize local sourcing of raw materials, packaging and services, supporting local farmers with whom we work closely to improve crop quality, and ensure predictable market access.
  • We are involved in an ever-growing number of educational initiatives focused on sustainability, initiatives which deliver lectures on nutrition and food culture.
  • Developing a training program for key employees aimed at improving awareness, skills, and knowledge on sustainability topics.
  • Investing in research and development to enhance product digestibility and quality, and to meet the needs of consumers with special dietary requirements.
  • Implementing fair and responsible marketing communication, with a focus on consumer awareness campaigns (sustainable packaging labels, tips for sustainable cooking, nutritional education, etc.).
  • Donating and sponsoring over 10 tons of food products annually, supporting a wide range of non-profit social organizations.
  • Building an outdoor sports field and an indoor sports facility – playing sports is an excellent way to socialize and promote health through physical activity. In addition to the benefits of outdoor sports, such as natural light, the indoor complex provides opportunities for a variety of activities, from football and handball to basketball, tennis, and roller skating.

To ensure that sustainability measures are not only implemented, but also effective, regular performance monitoring is essential. This involves setting clearly defined and measurable performance indicators, such as CO2 emissions, resource consumption, and waste recycling. Monitoring is carried out through a transparent and objective framework, with periodic reporting to provide a clear picture of the progress made.
